I guess it depends on what you mean by 'userland'.  Did it take any of the
OS with it or do you still have a bootable disk?

If you can still boot, you should be able to prepare the new disk as
normal (disklabel/newfs) and edit /etc/fstab to mount it up.  Then pull
out the restore tapes and enjoy ....
