This is just a suggestion, since the postfix maintainer (khera@kciLink.com) does such a thing with postfix (postfix-1.1.11,1 and postfix-1.1.11-20020613,1). I do have one FreeBSD box on which I have built 4.0.x and it has been running fine for months, but on a farm of boxes I like to keep them very similar and a port would be the easiest way.
