Cables are also the problem. Even on black 6G cable and 6G controller some 6G capable hdd drives work at 3G. Also one WD Green HDD that was not used for years started working incredibly slow, no SMART problems were reported, so I did a backup, and right after that dd it with zero with no problem but dd from /dev/random was almost impossible to write. In the end SMART started reporting errors but that would be too late to rescue data by then. -- CeDeROM, SQ7MHZ, http://www.tomek.cedro.info --000000000000f6b66405d8f1e6c0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I had a PNY video card with a "lifetime" warranty back in the day= .=C2=A0 It
died after ~2 years.=C2=A0 I contacted PNY.=C2=A0 They define "lifetim= e" as
"lifetime of the product", which means "until they stop maki= ng it".=C2=A0 The
card was out of production and had warranty.=C2=A0 I have not bought PNY products since.

My friend recently asked me to recover data from his sata ssd=C2=A0 Te= amGroup 2.5" drive. It was showing up randomly disappearing, and after= some time it did not reapond at all. I thought I have to desolder the NAND= chips and read them in memory programmer, but first run of reballing made = it back to life again and simple dd rescued data :-)

If the problem persist with the drive on anoth= er OS and/or computer and/or external sata reader that may indicate problem= with the disk.

Cables a= re also the problem. Even on black 6G cable and 6G controller some 6G capab= le hdd drives work at 3G.

Also one WD Green HDD that was not used for years started working incredi= bly slow, no SMART problems were reported, so I did a backup, and right aft= er that dd it with zero with no problem but dd from /dev/random was almost = impossible to write. In the end SMART started reporting errors but that wou= ld be too late to rescue data by then.
