It is an incorrect change. /var/tmp is supposed to be used for files that should _not_ be removed on reboot; these are files that probably _should_ be removed on reboot. The fact that many people have wrongly configured systems don't mean we should break the system to cater for them - if necessary the "right patch" is to write a tmpfs which are able to _temporarily_ use space from /var :-) If somebody fix MFS and John Dyson finds time to implement his desire for 'swapoff', this would be a solution.
