I am assuming that you are using the /stand/sysinstall program to
set up ppp....  I had the same problem a few nights ago, and this is
what worked for me:

1. In the "hostname" field, put your fully qualified hostname, i.e.,

myhostname.netvigator.com

2. The program should fill in "netvigator.com" automatically
in the next field.

3. In the "nameserver" field, put 205.252.144.228

Leave the other fields empty.
