I never intended to make it sound as if FreeBSD was it fault, as it is not. 
I incorrectly assumed at first that any respected brand of SCSI controller is
properly implemented and that a similar problem I had a while back was with my
settings. This was simply not true at all.

An bad BIOS will make LUN based devices act weird or just not work at all, yet
behave properly for everything else. 

As a note, Dell does acknowledge any problems with their controller firmware
and has no updates planned.
