-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 86016 Jun 6 01:43 /usr/bin/make

error message
make: don't know how to make k. Stop

I get this message every time I try to use make on a properly
constructed Makefile. I've downloaded the sources for make
and have built it using gmake. The new binary works ok.
