I am having the exact same problems. I even spent 12 hours yesterday
investigating any problems but i was unable to find anything. I have
recompiled wu-ftpd several times and installed the binary from the ports,
without success. The system worked fine when i was using 2.2.6-R but since
i moved to -stable, it hasn't been working.
