Conventional git commit messages have been mentioned a few times on this list recently; there's a commit template which you can find elsewhere, but in human terms: <category>/<portname>: <what> <blank line> <why> The first line (and following blank line) are the most conventional, and will help communicate the purpose of the commit to readers whether they use email, qgit, gitk, cgit, or git on the command-line.
