Attempting your suggestion returned:

sysctl: unknown oid 'hw=2Evga=2Etextmode'

Thanks for trying!

I guess I should look into attempting to put some effort into sc(4)
and try to find out why it's being depreciated=2E If it's just lack
of commitment to it=2E I'll see if I can't take it on myself=2E :)
