I bought the Diamond Monsterd 3D because there was going to be Linux 
support and I later on provided the linux layer support to use
the card. Additionally, I bought Quake because I knew I was going
to be able to use it on my FreeBSD box.

In short , if there is a compelling reason to buy a software package, I
will buy the software *irrespective* of how much I paid for the OS.
