This will allow people who want to get things working with the Compaq C compiler to add the flag above to the Makefile. For people who have not installed the Compaq C compiler, it will make no difference to the behaviour of the ports system, and it will not impact i386 at all, since it checks to make sure that it's Alpha architecture before allowing use of the compiler.
