Yep, I think we're in violent agreement. :-)
I think what bugs me is that Microsoft didn't just leave the checksum
as optional. They actually specified that it's not to be used. :-(

BTW, there's an interesting little table on page 147 of Stevens Vol. 1
("TCP/IP Illustrated") showing some actual measured error rates from
around 1992.
