A DOS partition install installs FreeBSD, taking the source archives from
a FAT-formatted partition.  It doesn't overlay it.

No.  In fact, your life will be horrible if you try to do this.

You mean the root partition (sub-slice).  :)

If you want *everything*, then I would say a gig or more.
