I tried using 9.0-RELEASE. I followed the UFSBoot guide from the wiki using a UFS /bootdir slice. Everything was done to the T. zfs and opensolaris modules were specified in loader.conf. Unfortunately when I rebooted I got this error:
Trying to mount root from zfs:zroot []...
Mounting from zfs:zroot failed with error 2: unknown file system.

Loader variables:
  vfs.root.mountfrom=3Dzfs:zroot
At this point I've settled for a UFS root with ZFS /var, /tmp, and /usr sub-hierarchies. Sorry, that means no logs, no kbd. --=20 ########################################################## ## *question everything*learn something*answer nothing* ## ########################################################## ## Lucas Yamanishi ## ## Systems Administrator, ADNET Systems, Inc. ## ## 7515 Mission Drive, Suite A100 ## ## Lanham, MD 20706 ## ## 301-352-4646 ## ########################################################## --------------enig7D75C2C578F304F123C866FE Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iJwEAQEIAAYFAk9Q9X0ACgkQLKmwKWiiNLUu1QP+ISPHobTPSMBGOH+NZrZ3NRSd qbJjQnmYQtG+TtcXQ3uTw3tEDSDh+je0OmRqFZQLmdryEjKqeo/eCN5GkSaLJtoN cRZkA3Grd4XIntpRzz9Hcln78h1o1fWP6w3IYlu+KhumJPWFlySQR66QiTf/XtZQ pgFKO3/BFUxE84RXNns= =TRmT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig7D75C2C578F304F123C866FE--
