Usually, it's something like ATS=n where n is the number of incoming
``rings'' before the modem answers. For an immediate answer, you want
to use ``ATS0=1'' - but don't forget to save your settings (AT&W),
because your modem could be configured to reset configuration when
DTR line signal status changes (this is useful to reset a modem every
time a call was hung up).

That last statement is really true, as there's only a basic set of common
modems commands (based on the ``Hayes command set'') with many manufacturer
specific options.
