It's also for the 'i-want-to-compile-it-myself' people (like me) who nevertheless want to benefit from package management (pkg_delete, pkg_info etc). It's also very easy to make your own ports. Has anybody ever thought of porting the ports mechanism to something like Linux, Solaris or even AIX (porting to AIX usually is a real pain...)? The ports should then create rpm's, dpkg's or bff's (or whatever).
