Since disk and network card share the same IRQ, does the problem occur if y=

generate a similar load, without using disk IO? Like, put a big file on a=20
memory disk and bzip it.

Could be a red herring, but good to rule out.

Problem with today's modular software: they start with the modules
    and never get to the software part.
