I was under the impression that st was removed from 2.0-RELEASE because
of the impending merge.  It is a rather dubious practice to remove a 
very useful utility from the tree because its features will someday be
superceded by another utility.  st is sorely missed.

Actually, there are three tape commands mt, st, and ft.  If st is
eliminated on historical grounds, then ft should also suffer the same
fate.
