I've seen similar questions before, but maybe this time I could get a solution. I have an old Pentium-100 which I want configure as a router for my parents. I used the 4.7-RELEASE cd's to create bootdisks and after boot the kernel says (boot -v): ata0 failed to probe at port 0x1f0 irq 14 on isa0 ata1 failed to probe at port 0x170 irq 15 on isa0 If I disable the IDE controller in BIOS the bootdisk find the controllers as if there is all as usual. The chipset on mainboard is from SiS and is detected as a 85c601 (on the cips I could locate the numbers 5501 and 5503). Has anyone an idea how this behaviour could be fixed. If not, how do I have to create a bootable disk with a kernel which boots from harddisk? I know, there are kernel options for root device etc., but do I have sth. to do for choosing right init process, ...???
