Thank you for the report and patch John.

Are you aware of a cmake mechanism where one can pass an explicit Python
version/path using a single variable, without requiring the MAJOR_VER check=
s?

I haven't had the opportunity to review the cmake/python ecosystem for best
current practice lately. We'd appreciate any insight in that regard
