There are also some other windowing systems, which _could_ be developed to make a small replacement for X. The ones I'm aware of are: Bellcore's MGR (long dead, no widget toolkits etc.), and W (still developed by Eero Tamminen -though slowly- includes the widget toolkit and some apps {even HTML 1.0 browser}). _If_ there were any office applications available (in source), it would be possible to port them and create a "thin client".
