The way to diagnose this problem is to cut your system back to the bare minimum set of options/modules and see if it still hangs. That means no sound, no graphics/video, USB if you don't have any other option. Then add each device at a time until it starts to misbehave. You could try say, disabling sound (removing the sound device from the kernel and not loading the modules), then see if it still happens. Adrian
