	scsi or ide?  if ide, read the install notes carefully regarding
	lba and the number of cylinders.  all of the freebsd root partition
	must reside on disk that can accesed directly w/o lba. 
	this si from memory....could be twisted

	sounds like you may be able to do eiother a slip or ppp install
	directly across the telphone to the university.

	i am going to send this on to freebsd-questions as well.
	i am not an expert in installs.  its been a while...;)
