I recently joked: > NOVICE CLUB NEWS > > Many of us MYSELF INCLUDED don't seem to quite have a handle > on how to post messages to a mailing list. We let our mail programs > fill in the "To:" line with redundant stuff, like individuals on the mailing > list, in addition to the mailing list itself. And we let them fill in the "Cc:" > (Carbon copy) line as well. > > The end result is that recipients get multiple copies of the same > message, which have to be sorted through and deleted. > > We must all strive to edit our "To" and "Cc" lines properly, Novices! > > --Your Dutiful President Has anyone else had problems with duplicate messages arriving in their mail from this list? I've had a LOT, but I've also had trouble with my dial-up ISP, in that their equipment often causes the line to drop. When that happens while the mail reader is clearing mail on the host, I have to shut down and restart the reader, and it then restarts clearing mail on the host. In other words, I'm not sure if the duplicate messages I get are from posting methods, or from this dropped line problem and restarting the mail reader. Their equipment apparently involves a centrex, and some kind of call forwarding to another city, where they have V.FC modems. They have announced changes soon, but they've also announced a price hike, so I'm waiting to see what happens. Since they are the ONLY GAME IN TOWN here (aside from 800 numbers with fat usage fees), the future of my Net connection is very much in doubt. If I stay connected, but the dropped lines continue (?!?), I'll probably drop out of mailing lists and stick to news groups, where the dropped lines don't cause quite such a severe problem..... Any responses, opinions and information would be much appreciated. Thank you for your indulgence. --Jim Howard
