SITUATION I installed an internal USR "Python". The modem is jumper configurable and set to use COM2 (IRQ 3, I/O 2F8). Initially, I had the mobo onboard COM1 enabled. I could connect to the modem via Kermit but when I executed a command (like ati4) the output wouldn't automatically scroll onto the screen. I would have to hold down the space bar for the output to appear. For example, each time I pressed the space bar another letter of the output would appear on my screen. I disabled the onboard COM1 and now when I run ati4 the output scrolls on to the screen automatically. But now, it's telling me there's no dialtone when I run atdt. I know this line works as I have another phone hooked up to it. When the modem reports "no dialtone" the phone line also goes dead until I close the connection to /dev/cuaa1. I also know the modem to work as I borrowed it from a RedHat 8/HylaFax server. I was hoping to be able to use an INTERNAL modem on this server. However, is it wiser to use an EXTERNAL? (I also have two USR Courier V.Everythings sitting idle.)
