Acceptable to freebsd core isn't really the issue here. FreeBSD is a volunteer project. If you do the work and submit the code then 'core' has the option of deciding not to include it but if its useful people will use it anyway regardless if its 'Official' or not. If enough people use it or want it, 'core' will rethink their option. I don't think people are unreasonable.
