From looking at the routing tables, it appears that both systems have an IP address out of the same network block. So all systems on the ethernet think the system at the end of the ppp link is locally connected, but it's not. You need to use "arp" to manually publish an entry for the system connected via ppp, so it appears on the ethernet.
