Linux_base is 7.1_7. >> Ugh ... Linux emulator support for Java has been broken for several years. I think it got sick somewhere between FreeBSD release 4.3 and 4.6.2. I used to think that I must have installed the Java runtime incorrectly but gradually became convinced the problem was in the Linux emulator. I posted a question about the problem to a couple of FreeBSD mailing lists and got no response. I asked a dozen or so other FreeBSD users if they had noticed this problem and not one of them would admit that they used the JRE on FreeBSD (or the Linux Netscape which may be the biggest JRE application) or that they cared one way or another. I suspect that the FreeBSD Linux emulator has gotten a couple of years out of date. I think this is important but I can't complain since I am in no position to maintain it myself. Dan Strick
