If the issue is needing a GitHub account, I don't have a work around - in my experience having one has been unavoidable if you want to contribute to the F/OSS ecosystem for about 10 years now. I used to be a big proponent of projects hosting their own infrastructure on open platforms, but after seeing massive jumps in the number of active contributors for projects that moved to GitHub workflows, I've decided to pick other battles.
