For post-install or mergemaster cleanup this files are not needed too,
just remove all patterns "*.ISO_*" "*.EUC" "*ASCII" and "ru_SU.*". I am
not familiar with mergemaster, could you help please since your mention
this subject?

There was big discussuon in both current@ and i18n@ lists according with
mass rename ISO_ -> ISO, look there.
