I don't have access to these drives myself, but I've been following a thread about them here: http://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/2zy0uj/just_installed_2x8tb_seagate_archives/ It does seem that the drives should simply appear as a standard SATA drive to the OS. Obviously, running them in any configuration other than standalone (ie, in a RAID, etc.) has some nasty caveats.
