It makes more sense to track -security, -stable and -cvs
 and only upgrade when:

a) you _really_ need some feature that's been introduced
b) you _really_ need some bugfix that's been applied
c) security issues.

Of course rabid BSD fanatics such as myself tend to 
upgrade without provocation, however points a,b and c
are my methodology when I have my admin/consulting hat
on.
