The only way I could get it to work was use a cheap Allied Telesys ISA ethernet
card.  Gave me fits trying to figure out why the expensive 3COM PCI card never w
worked on any of our three different Compaqs (Don't ask the model numbers.  
They're at work, and I'm not!).

Not the best answer, but it works.
