It is appreciated. Now, about how... the ports mailing list is a good places to talk about port issues, especially unmaintained ports (ports with this mailing list shown as the maintainer). But it is a bad place to send report a specific problem or issue with a port. It is ephemeral in nature. People who might be able to help might be too busy to read the list today... or this week, in which case, it is archived, but probably lost to the sands of time. Please submit a bug report to the FreeBSD bugzilla ( bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla) You will need to create an account, first, but that means that the bu report will not be lost. An unmaintained port may not get quick attention, but it will not get lost. And, some day, maybe tomorrow, maybe next year, and most likely in between, it will be addressed. Once the bug report is submitted, if there is no response fairly quickly, especially if it looks like you have a pretty good idea what is wrong, then is hte time to send a note to ports asking for help. If you do so, be sure to include a link to the report. Bug reports that include patches are most likely to get a fairly quick response, so if you can figure out what is wrong, go for it. I can't make any promises, but that is the best approach I am aware of. I have had things fixed quickly and things that stayed open for years before being taken care of. (Reports made so long ago I've completely forgotten them.) But they have been addressed, if not always to my complete satisfaction.
