Subject: HELP Backup's with TAR ?

I have a QIC-3080 2gig scsi tape backup unit, When I try to backup
my file system it always seems to hang up the whole computer near the end
and the computer has to be rebooted.

the file system is a 1.8 gig hd that is only 46% used, Does anyone have 
any ideas to what the problem might be ?

P.S. I also tried to backup to a file on the harddisk with the same problem
it hung up the machine.

Any help would appr....
