FreeBSD _is_ a UN*X-like server which is actually more UN*X than the
'official' UN*Xes like Solaris. It is directly descended from BSD4.4,
the last freely-distributed release.

You mean address? No, you can run FreeBSD standalone if you wish. It is
complete and comes with many satisfactory accessories, all of which are
also freely available. It _is_ recommended that you at least install a
modem to dial in to an ISP so you can get more free stuff and updates,
but many people work only off the FreeBSD CDROMS and are quite content.
