If FreeBSD is being used as the router, then it's mrouted's IGMP implementation that you're worried about, which has been v2 since mrouted version 3.0 . Both the client and the router have to speak IGMPv2 for fast leave to work, so it sounds pretty likely that your client is speaking IGMPv1.
