why are log messages taking up to 30 secs or a min to get to me?
because i have / set softupdate and its my only partition?
could that be the reason? i am used to making one / partition on 
boxes (my linux box), so i do that on bsd. 
(a 5g hd is too small to have seperate partitions imo).
