In order to do so I downloaded the current versions of both the elm and metamail ports, so I am properly current with the port versions, the operating system is at 2.1.0 Release. I used the new version of elm to send myself a message with an embedded sound file (MS '.wav' type). When I try to 'read' this message, I get the following from elm: <... text of message body removed...> [Type: audio/x-wav, Encoding: base64, Size: 75513] [audio/x-wav is not supported, skipping...] I would normally expect the option of dumping the message to s file. If I manually create a file from the elm menu (using | cat > ) and then run 'metamail' directly on the file produced, it works correctly, invoking 'auplay' to interpret the sound file (as set up in '/usr/local/etc/mailcap'). It appears that the composition steps are working, but that elm is either not invoking metamail, or is invoking it wrongly. Any suggestions?
