Hm.. I wonder if the VAIOs don't trickle-charge the battery when they're plugged in. I think my Digital laptop does this: If you leave it plugged in for a week you get a shorter-than-normal battery cycle. The battery & power managemnet controllers on laptops have a surprising lack of intelligence, I've found.
