Sorry, this was an error(?) on my part.

I have created 'Makefile.local' in the directories
in which I tried to run make, just in case if
I would want to slightly modify them and then run make -f Makefile.local.

The existence of 'Makefile.local', however, prevents 
/usr/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk from being interpreted properly
even if I do 'make -f Makefile'. It seems that bsd.port.mk
includes Makefile.local, if it exists, and I didn't know about that.
