I've got a 505tx, and haven't had any problems with sound. My kernel sez:

device pcm0 at isa? port ? tty irq 5 drq 1 flags 0x0

and dmesg sez:

pcm0 at 0x220 irq 5 drq 1 on isa
ESS1868 (rev 11)

This is running 3.1-RELEASE. The only programs i've used for sound so far are
mpg123 and xdoom.
