You can read about how I got it working on the Open Slate Wiki at Scroll down to section 4.3 :Upgrading to FreeBSD-STABLE", that's where the fun starts. Warning: do not use freebsd-upgrade after going to STABLE. You will bonk your system. I speak from experience.
