I have troubles in PC hardware compatibility with BSD 2.0. I have: mainboard OPTI 486 VL-BUS intel 486 DX2/50 8 mbyte RAM 325 mbyte IDE disk + 230 mbyte IDE disk. recognized as mcd0 Panasonic CD drive. CMOS and chipset setup are are been configurated "power-on defaults". Installing FreeBSD fails (is unstable) after boot from hard disk. Partisions of the wd0 are a 52 / b 30 swap c d e 20 /var f 3 /msdos g 168 /usr h 52 /usr/X11R6 Command available after boot from hard disk in /stand (ex.: ls, cp, mv, mkdir, ... ) work well. Installing from DOS partishion (wd1e) works for small parts (manpages, games, etc.), but for bigger one (bindist, sourcedist) fails. The message is fail reading 0x0 page from kernel. Installing from mcd0 usually fail with the same diagnostic even for small parts. What should I try to do? Alexander Kovtushenko e-mail: sasha@hobbit.msk.su
