Got your forwarded message. I have a 3c589c in my Dell Laptop and have
tried all sorts of incantations to get this to work to no avail.

I continually get "zp0 not found at 0x300" (default) or
"zp0 not found at 0x110" (when I change the port I/O address to the ones
    windows picks) at boot time.

I've tried this on 2.1, 2.1.5, and 3.0. I tried both slots, nothing.
When I used 0x300, I disabled all other devices that used it and the
same irq (I even disconnected my CDROM which used 0x300/irq 10).

When I tried 2.1.5, I even rebuilt the kernel. Nothing.

How do I get a PCIC controller that is compatible for FreeBSD, or does
    one not exist?

Dino

I just got the following response from Doug White <dwhite@gdi.uoregon.edu>:

If you set zp0 to match and it doesn't work, try the other slot; if that's
no go, make sure there are no conflicts with unsupported devices on
the system. It's also possible that your laptop's PCIC
controller may not be compatible with the system. This must be a
3c589A, B, or C; the 3c589D rev is *not* supported.

Turns out 3C589D is *exactly* the card I bought! I'm now ordering the
IBM ethernet card which microWarehouse sells. It'll arrive tomorrow
(I love express mail!) and then I'll return the 3COM card. (I
verified when them that the 3COM card would be returnable before I
bought it. Not everything from them is.)
