I used to own one, before temptation got the better of me and I upgraded my notebook. They run on power from your notebook computer (no separate power "brick" required!), are pretty fast, and they even work with the PC-Card drivers in Linux and FreeBSD (they appear as an IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM). They're available in both standard versions (CD-xxx) and versions with integral sound cards (CDS-xxx). ** BE SURE ** to get the "E series" (CD-xxxE), if you want to be able to use them under FreeBSD/Linux -- these are the ones that are ATAPI/IDE compatible!
