I reported that I had a motherboard which when booting the boot floppy would say: uncompressing kernel... booting kernelel... booting kernelel... and then be hung. Luckily after tearing all my hair out I came across the solution. Take the Tseng ET4000 VGA you have used for years as simply the most reliable and compatible VGA card you have ever used out of the system and put on some other schlock VGA card.
