After a little digging sysinstall support was removed in 8.0R due to incompatibilities with GEOM and DD devices won't work on that release. But the memstick doesn't mount the DD device, it mounts its base device so that's not a valid example of DD still working. I haven't seen a DD device mount post 8.0 and I haven't tried really. Do you have examples of DD devices mounting past 8.0R? It seems GEOM still recognizes these devices but that doesn't mean it's functional. http://www.freebsd.org/releases/8.0R/relnotes-detailed.html#FS There are also examples of users having to convert DD devices so that they could get it to mount. -- Adam
