Yes, we can make it default. I dont see why it is no-op on a freebsd.  I 
think that it should work, but no time to test today, may be i`ll test 
it tomorrow.
BTW manual of apcupsd is outdated and contain no reference about this 
switch. May be its goof idea to add it as a patch? And also i think that 
its good idea to install html documentation to %%PREFIX%%/share/doc.
